scream test

At work, when we find a component or a service that no one knows about, sometimes we'd do what we call a "scream test". We would disable or remove the component temporarily, and then wait for whichever team actually cared about it to scream. Of course, we do some initial investigation on whether disabling or removing the component is relatively safe to do and easy to put back in place.

This is what I feel like is happening with the current market. Employers are doing "scream tests" across their organization. Lay off thousands of people, see what part of their business or shareholders actually cared, and go from there.

Don't forget to scream.
